Professor Eleanor Shaw is an inclusive entrepreneurial leader with more than 25 years’ experience of working with, researching and designing learning interventions that support the start-up, growth and sustainable development of entrepreneurial ventures, including social enterprises. Eleanor is now Senior Vice Dean of Strathclyde Business School and before that she was Executive Director of the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship. In addition to Strathclyde, Eleanor has worked at a number of globally leading universities including positions at  Glasgow University, Durham University, Toulouse Business School, Massey University (New Zealand), University of Arkansas, Universidad de Monterrey, Mexico and Montpellier Business School

Eleanor gained her doctorate from the University of Glasgow of the topic of using social networks to support the sustainable growth of entrepreneurial organisations. Since then, she has built an international research reputation for her work on the impact of financial and non-financial capitals in the creation and growth of entrepreneurial ventures, particularly social enterprises. Eleanor designed and led on the UK’s first empirical study of social entrepreneurs and publications resulting from than have been influential in shaping what is known about social entrepreneurs and the organisations which they establish and lead.

Eleanor is an engaged entrepreneurship scholar and in addition to her leadership roles at Strathclyde she provides expert advice to the UK Government’s Scale-UP taskforce Group on Leadership Skills & Access to Talent and to the Scale-Up Institute’s Building Leadership Capacity Group. She is also a Board member of the Chartered Association of Business School Small Business Charter and Santander Universities UK.

​Eleanor is regularly invited as a keynote speaker at UK and international conferences, seminars and events on entrepreneurship, social enterprise, philanthropy, networking and women’s entrepreneurship.
